it's all fun and games until someone's nose gets broken...then it's hilarious

so there's this funny thing after you finish high school: graduation! it feels a little strange to know that i am a high school graduate. just as i was getting comfortable in high school, i have to leave. don't get me wrong, i want to leave (or would it be wanted as i have left high school now?) see i can't even get my verb tenses right! so anyway we graduated yesterday and had a jolly good time of it :)

after graduation comes graduation parties! this made for a rather eventful day yesterday. we went to a party of someone who goes to my church then hannah and i went to my best friend megan's house. we ate some cake and played a really terrible game of badminton. then we decided to play ninja...

for those of you who don't know this game (if you do know you may carry on to the next paragraph): a group of people stands in a circle. all bow to the center then strike a ninja-esque pose (usually accompanied by a ninja noise) the winner of the previous round (or some random person if it is the first round) swings at one of the people next to them trying to hit their hand. if you hit anything but a hand you are out. if you hit their hand they are out and the circle closes. if you do not wish to swing (or can't for various reasons) you may reposition yourself into a new ninja pose.

so anyway, two of the girls thought it would be fun to try to make josh (megan's boyfriend) flinch by swinging past his face in the process of swinging at his hand. this turned out to be not such a good idea as one of the aforementioned girls swung a little harder than intended and a bit closer to his face than intended and ended up hitting him in the face. this made quite a satisfying smack sound. however that's when the blood began. the heel of her hand had smashed into his nose, breaking it. this kind of puts a damper on the party atmosphere.

he's fine now (well, as good as you can be with a broken nose). they were going to the doctor last night so hopefully he got it shifted back into place. it was rather unsettling to look at his face and see his nose a good half centimeter off from where it was supposed to be.

it was an accident but the unnamed breaker of the nose feels really terrible about it even though she didn't mean to and it wasn't her idea in the first place. so if she's reading this: don't worry about it :) accidents happen.

i'm hopefully going to another grad party today which i hope is not nearly as eventful :)

silly high school! finals are for underclassmen!

it is very nearly official. i have finished my high school education. all that's left for me now is 2 half days of torture called finals. there's really no point to it. my grades are good enough that even if i did terribly, i wouldn't really go below a B in any of my classes. of course, this doesn't mean i'm not going to try. it is a source of procrastination though :/

i also have graduation rehearsal today. we have to run through everything so that we know what we're doing on saturday. i'm kind of excited but i hope the guys in my class can stop being morons long enough for us to get it done.

i start my new job on tuesday! i'm pretty excited about this :) not sure if i mentioned this before so i'll say it now: i got a job working at a park near my school. i will spend the summer taking care of baby animals and doing park maintenance. it was actually really cool how it worked out because my mom brought home the county application in january and i filled it out so she could bring it back. then i completely forgot about it. sometime in early may (i don't remember exactly) i got a call from the park manager, who coincidentally is the father of one of the guys in my class (not one of the aforementioned morons tho :). he was super nice. i did the interview and he called me the next week to tell me i am hired! that is one of the best feelings in the world to get a call from someone saying that you are the best for the job and that they want you more than the other people who interviewed.

so my summer will be mostly work but i'll be outside the whole time so i'm ok with that. starting on tuesday means
a) i make more money :)
b) i don't have to sit around at home all summer :)

plans for my graduation party are underway! we're not doing it on the day of because about a bajillion of my friends are doing it that day. that gives us way more time to plan so that's nice. my aunt is making me a quilt out of all my tshirts from high school. i'm pretty excited to see it because she is very talented :)

sewing and such

so my life consists of your average everyday insanity, but i thought i'd stop in and blog an update.

sewing: i finished my dress for graduation!! it is currently displayed in the window of the home ec room. also my sister is sewing a dress about 5 feet away as i type this.

prom: was excellent! we ate chinese food, danced the night away, then watched robin hood:men in tights at my friend's house. one of my friends ran a half marathon the next day too. that was pretty neat.

senior awards: we had them today. basically i had to dress up so that i could walk up to the front of the auditorium and shake my college's admissions guy's hand while he gave me a framed photo of the college. it was still kind of cool though.

spanish: in my spanish 4 class we have to do a ten minute presentation. in spanish. i did mine on painters from spanish speaking cultures. i think i did good but even if i didn't i'll still have an A :)

school: will be over in 10 days!!!! that is ten calendar days until graduation and 6 classes (of each hour) left!!
as you may be able to tell, i'm extremely excited about this.

plasma: i'm going to go give plasma because i am out of money and the gas light just came on in my car!

frolic 2011

so at my high school we have this thing called frolic. it's basically a talent show on the wednesday before prom and homecoming. sometimes it's lame, sometimes it's awesome. tonight, it was awesome. i sat between two of my best friends all night listening to the mostly vocal, but occasionally comedic stylings of my classmates. there was an adaptation of sweet home alabama: sweet home wisconsin. an original song/ rap by one of the most talented guys i know. a lovely dance by several of the senior girls. and of course, the classic baby picture/ senior picture slide show. it was an amazing night.

as i type this, i am wearing the dress that i made in sewing class. it fits me perfectly, which i was a little worried about. it's purple (of course :)

everyone is starting to get excited for prom. and for graduation. personally, i can barely contain myself. i will miss my friends, but i'll make more and i can't wait to be away from high school. before i do though, i have like 17 days left so i'm going to go get some sleep...

may the fourth be with you

so i'm not sure when or how this started (or if i just live under a rock and didn't know about it) but apparently today is star wars day. i think it's quite clever.

my tanning escapades have continued. i went for 12 minutes and burnt my stomach/back. probably because my stomach has never seen the light of day. at least not in sunshine. it's just reaching that point that it itches but if i scratch it i instantly regret it. yay for pain neurons, right?

i'm beginning to have a whole new appreciation for all the foreign kids who come to my school and speak english all day long. i'm in spanish 4 and we have to do a 10 minute presentation on culture in spanish speaking countries. it took me awhile to think of something i could actually spend 10 minutes talking about but once i found it (artists in/from south america) the realization hit: i actually have to write up 10 minutes worth of words in spanish. at this point i'm debating whether i should figure out what i want to say in english then try to switch it to spanish or just start out completely (notes and all) in spanish. i'm leaning towards the all spanish because then i can add details and whatnot to my presentation without having to translate on the fly.

my last choir concert of the year (and of high school) is approaching this weekend. it's big fun because we get to wear our prom dresses. it's extra big fun this year because our director is having us serenade his wife for their 10th wedding anniversary. we're singing the song you are so beautiful and our director is singing the solo. it's going to be epic!!
